Cops off Campus - Message of Support

Students for the NHS sends their support and solidarity to all students taking part in the Cops off Campus National Day of Action on the 11th December 2013.

Our campuses must be a safe space for students to organise, discuss and take action without fear of victimisation or reprisal.

When University Management and the Police fail to uphold these principles our most basic rights as people are threatened. We as a campaign believe that universities are a space for people to challenge institutionalised thinking. If this is taken away they lose their function as spaces for critical engagement

In London students were physically assaulted.  In Sussex the 5 suspended students were banned from campus, including the health services. In Birmingham students were demanding an end to plans to cut nursing student numbers.

The health impacts of intimidation and violence are sometimes obvious. Sometimes the effects take longer to manifest. If we create a culture of fear that denies young people the right to speak out in the face of oppression, we all suffer.

Students for the NHS stands with all students who defend their right to dissent.
